Established in 1954, Gal Oya National Park is a hidden gem in Sri Lanka's eastern region. It serves as the main catchment area for the Senanayake Samudraya, the largest reservoir in the country. The park is uniquely comprised of a large number of islands, which has led to the incredible behavior of elephants swimming from one island to another in search of fresh grass.
